Monitoring Process on Violations Against Displaced Syrians
You are invited to attend the Human Rights Council 49th session’s side event titled: Monitoring Process on Violations Against Displaced Syrians.
As part of the efforts to discuss the options of the establishment of an international monitoring process. This side event will discuss the violations returning displaced Syrians are subject to, how appropriate current conditions in Syria for return compared to UNHCR’s protection thresholds, and practical options for the establishment of an international monitoring process and possible modalities. A gender-sensitive process that engages all stakeholders including IDPs and refugees themselves. The side event will shed light on the role of the human rights council, its special procedures, and other UN agencies in such a monitoring process. This event is not encouraging in any way to create a process that promotes or organizes returns, on the contrary, the motives behind this call for building monitoring process is the increasing violations against Syrian refugees, IDPs, and returnees, and the challenges they are facing to access basic needs and rights.
